Sweet Pea, fragrant and delicate

Symbolizes departure after having had a good time and can also indicate delicate pleasure and bliss.

This annual plant is mostly known as a climber, and climb it does! In one season it can reach heights of 6′ 6″, provided you offer it some support. Easily grown from seed the Sweet Pea is a must have for your garden! It will cover any unsightly fence, shed or other “eyesore” in your garden with a multitude of blooms in a nice variety of colours; hot pink, lavender, light pink, purple and white, but unfortunately not yellow.  Not all Sweet Pea’s are climbers though, you can also find it as a low lying ground cover and as a shrub.

Sweet Pea is from the genus  Lathyrus in the family Fabaceae (legumes), native to the eastern Mediterranean region from Sicily east to Crete. The eye-catching flowers make superb cut flowers for fresh flower arrangements. The Sweet Pea with its strong stems and bold colors is often used in wedding work creating stunning fragrant centerpieces and bouquets.

It is also a very important part of every floral arrangement for its fragrance which makes it one of the most important ingredients for potpourri.
